Songkick Event Scraper & Gmail Newsletter

Automate your monthly event updates. This workflow scrapes event listings from any website (like Songkick), formats them into an HTML newsletter, and sends it via Gmail.

Overview

Automatically scrapes a website for monthly event listings, formats them into a custom HTML email, and sends it as a newsletter via Gmail.

🧠 Description & Use Case

This workflow automates the process of creating and sending a personalized monthly event newsletter. It scrapes event listings from a specified website (like Songkick), formats the data into a clean HTML table, and emails it to a recipient list using Gmail.

🔄 How It Works:

  1. Trigger & Setup

    • The Each month Schedule Trigger kicks off the workflow automatically at the start of each month.
    • The Setup location and email node requires you to input the target URL of the event listings page and the recipient's email address.

  2. Data Scraping Loop

    • The workflow enters a loop to handle websites with multiple pages of listings.
    • The Get events page (HTTP Request) node fetches the content of the current page.
    • Get all events from the page (HTML Extract) pulls the HTML for each individual event listing.
    • The Last page? (IF) node checks if it has reached the end of the listings. If not, it waits for 3 seconds (to be polite to the server) and loops back to fetch the next page.

  3. Data Aggregation & Formatting

    • Once all pages have been scraped, the Collect all results node gathers every event into a single dataset.
    • Get each event data (HTML Extract) then parses each event to extract key details like the artist, date, support acts, location, and a link to the event.
    • The Lick the stamp (Code) node masterfully formats this data into a polished HTML table, creating a professional-looking newsletter body.

  4. Email Delivery

    • Finally, the Send it (Gmail) node sends the generated HTML table as an email. The subject line is dynamically updated with the total number of events found.

  • Personal Concert Alerts: Create a custom monthly digest of all concerts in your city from your favorite listing site.
  • Venue & Promoter Newsletters: Venues or promoters can automate sending their monthly schedule to their mailing list without manual data entry.
  • Community Event Boards: A community manager could compile a list of local tech meetups, workshops, or festivals and email it to members.
  • Content Creation: Bloggers or journalists can use this to quickly gather data for a "What's On This Month" article.
